Anansi and the Pot of Wisdom

Anansi and the Pot of Wisdom

Anansi, the clever spider, was known for his cunning tricks and schemes. One day, he decided he wanted to be the wisest creature in the world. He traveled far and wide, collecting every piece of wisdom he could find and storing it in a large clay pot.

When the pot was full, Anansi feared someone might steal his wisdom. So, he decided to hide it high up in a tall tree. Tying the pot to his belly, he struggled to climb, but the pot kept getting in his way.

Anansi’s young son watched from below and finally called out, “Father, why not tie the pot to your back instead? That way, you can climb more easily!”

Furious that his own son had shown more wisdom than he, Anansi realized that no one could possess all the wisdom in the world. In his anger, he threw the pot down, and it shattered, scattering wisdom to everyone. From that day forward, people everywhere shared the wisdom that had once belonged only to Anansi.
